49 days to goSunday has proven almost as lazy as Saturday – with the small exception that I fit in a 28km trail run.

I’ve signed up to a Chi Running Camp in Costa Brava in a couple of weeks where most of the week will involve trail running. So given that I’m the girl who trips over painted lines on the road, I figured I should practice a little before putting life and limb on the line three weeks before the marathon.

My relationship with trail running has been patchy. As someone who has always appreciated the affects of running, but never really enjoyed the actual activity, trail running has always annoyed me.

There’s the constant dodging, weaving and up and down. And then let’s not mention the gravel and grass that moves underfoot and steals all your hard earned forward momentum.

I’d much prefer a nice flat road devoid of obstacles.

I won’t say that the entire 28kms of running on different surfaces was pure joy. And it most definitely wasn’t fast! But it was certainly better than previous efforts and I could really notice the cumulative effect of all the training I have been doing.

Dodging and weaving is much more fun when you’ve got the fitness and stamina to deal with it.

My poor new black shoes don’t look so new or black anymore though!
