RUNNING

For most of my life running was pain and suffering. But now it is how I find freedom and relaxation. These are the stories of how I got to this point.

I cannot believe it. I actually have a sugar hangover. I went out last night to our favourite Tapas bar, and had what would have been a typical meal a few months ago. I ate meat and potatoes. I had a beer. I ordered dessert. I might have had shared some birthday...

Today was a restful training day - if there is such a thing! Fit in a run, a sauna, a sports massage, a game of mini golf, a healthy picnic lunch and one or two things that may not have been so healthy. No guilt today though!

No photos of food today. My homemade salmon and eggs just can't compare to Heston's frog leg porridge. I did make it to the gym this morning for a session with Gray though. The bugger seriously upped my weights... I'm going to feel it tomorrow!

So it was an interesting day of marathon prep... A 13km run around the streets of Walthamstow, followed by a quick shower and change of clothes, an indulgent three course lunch at Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, before nipping into the restaurant loo to change into my...

I think I may have found a new obsession. I tried bouldering today for the first time in my adult life and it was SO MUCH FUN!! After two and a half hours of climbing, a 20min jog and an evening out with awesome people I am well and truly shattered. Hoping some shut...

Just a solidly awesome day today. A good workout. Great food. Amazing company. And a healthy dose of self acceptance. I actually like this new side of myself. Crazy!

Only 8 weeks of training left, and with such high stakes (ie. you guys holding me accountable!) it's time to review the good, the bad and the ugly of my training so far. The absolute highlight has been hiring a chi running coach. I cannot sing the praises of Gray Caws...

Only 60 days... I can't believe it! Starting to notice little improvements though. Slightly trimmer. Slightly faster. Slightly better technique. Slightly better day-to-day posture. Today I had fun in the gym with Gray. All the stuff he gets me to do always has more to...

If there is one thing worse than an early morning the day after a 20km run, it's an early morning after a 24mile run. Which is what I inflicted upon my poor coach Gray this morning. Seriously - the guy is a super hero! Despite the slightest hint of fatigue, I have to...

I've been watching other runners with interest lately. Mostly as they pass me, because despite my improving fitness and technique I'm not particularly fast. Yet. And as I've been watching these runners I've been trying to figure out why it is that they are able to run...

Long run tomorrow, so I hit the road for a brief 20min jog today and spent the evening stretching. Still enjoying the new nutritional approach though. It's been a full month since I last ate sugar, and two weeks since my last piece of fruit. And I am enjoying playing...

Felt really strong this morning as I tackled hill runs in the morning sunshine with Gray. Not sure I'm quite at his level... "you should be using the same amount of effort going up as coming down"... but I just pulled my chin in, lengthened my spine, pumped my arms...

The days are slipping by fast now and what did I do to prepare today? I rested! I know that rest is an essential part of the programme, but for once I actually wish I'd gone out for a run. So much to do, so little time!

Got my workout done early this morning. In the gym for more core and upper body work... planks, farmers holds, pushups, rows. My favourites are the ones that I get to do horizontally. For some reason they feel easier!

Today was a day of contradictions. I did lots, but didn't really get anything done. I ate really healthy food, but I ate far too much of it. I wanted to go for a run, but I just didn't really feel like it. I increased my cadence, but I actually ran slower. I moved my...

It was fair to say that bank holiday Monday in London was pretty rubbish. Torrential rain all day, so I was glad not to have a run scheduled. Spent half an hour on abs and core work and several hours cooking up a storm in preparation for another week of fantastically...

Some of you may have noticed by now I have an obsessive personality. One week I'm all about running technique, the next some weird energy gubbins, and the next it's nutrition and making out that sugar is the world's worst enemy. It probably seems like I've completely...

Made a scrummy healthy breakfast and then loped off with my husband to explore the canals and parks of London. Scot in training for the Camino de Santiago. Me in training for the NYMarathon. Great day!

So poor Gray had the job of cajoling me around the streets of London today. You know that I can't train for a marathon on vegetables alone. And now I know it too! Despite feeling perky and alive when I got out of bed this morning there was nothing in the tank today,...
